Demanding Conversations

Demanding Conversations was a conference that took place at Knowle West Media Centre, Bristol on 22nd and 23rd September 2010. The conference involved practitioners, artists, policy makers, and commentators in debate about socially engaged arts practice within the visual arts sector.

This website is both a record of the conference, and also a platform for people to continue the conversations that were begun then. Knowle West Media Centre is going to continue to commission commentary on Socially Engaged Practice to keep the debates live and pertinent.

KWMC

Knowle West Media Centre (KWMC) is a media arts charity and limited company that aims to develop and support cultural, social and economic regeneration.

It delivers a comprehensive Arts Programme of artist residencies, exhibitions and workshops, working with regional, national and international artists whilst maintaining a local focus.

As a social enterprise and formally-constituted charity, KWMC also runs a range of groups for young people in digital media, offers professional film and design services and delivers educational, digital and environmental projects.
